Privacy policy
Last updated: 7 October 2026
The short version: we collect only what TalkMaxxing needs to work. Your voice recordings are turned into text so Mic can give you feedback. We don't keep the recordings, we don't sell your data, and there are no adverts.
Who we are
TalkMaxxing ("the TalkMaxxing team", "we", "us") is an app that helps people practise speaking and builds their confidence.
If you have any questions about your privacy, email us at faristheg@gmail.com.
What we collect
| Information | Why we need it | Where it's kept |
|---|---|---|
| Account details: your email address and name, from Google or Apple when you sign in | To create your account and keep you signed in | Our servers (Supabase) |
| Lesson usage: which lessons you start each day and how many recordings you make | To apply the daily lesson limit and stop misuse | Our servers (Supabase) |
| Voice recordings you make in speaking challenges | To turn your speech into text and measure your pace, filler words and pauses | Passed to Deepgram to transcribe, then discarded. We don't store them. |
| Transcripts of what you said, plus your speaking measurements | To write Mic's personalised feedback | Passed to Anthropic (Claude) to write the feedback. We don't store them. |
| Your answers to the welcome questions (goals, confidence, challenges, daily goal, reminder time), your progress, XP, streak and scores | To personalise your lessons and track your progress | Only on your phone |
We don't use advertising, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't sell or rent your information to anyone.
Your microphone
TalkMaxxing only uses your microphone while you are recording a speaking challenge, after you tap the record button. You can turn microphone access off at any time in your phone's settings. The speaking challenges won't work without it.
Notifications
If you choose a daily reminder, your phone schedules it locally. We don't send reminders from our servers, and you can turn them off in your phone's settings.
Who we share information with
We use a small number of trusted services to run TalkMaxxing. They process information only on our behalf, to provide their service to us:
- Supabase: sign-in, our database and the servers that handle your recordings.
- Deepgram: turns your recordings into text. We ask Deepgram not to use TalkMaxxing recordings to improve its models.
- Anthropic: its Claude AI writes Mic's feedback from your transcript. Anthropic doesn't use this data to train its models.
- Google and Apple: if you choose to sign in with them.
Some of these providers are based in, or store data in, the United States and other countries outside the UK. When that happens, we rely on the legal safeguards those providers offer, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.
We may also share information if the law requires it.
Our legal reasons for using your information
- To provide the app you asked for (contract): your account, lessons, recordings and feedback.
- Legitimate interests: keeping TalkMaxxing secure, applying fair usage limits, and fixing problems.
How long we keep it
- Voice recordings and transcripts: we don't store them after your feedback has been written.
- Account details and lesson usage: for as long as you have an account. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete them within 30 days.
- Information on your phone: until you delete the app.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the information we hold about you
- correct information that is wrong
- delete your information (see Delete your account)
- restrict or object to how we use it
- give you your information in a format you can take elsewhere
Email faristheg@gmail.com and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
TalkMaxxing is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has signed up, please contact us and we'll delete their account.
Security
Information sent between the app and our servers is encrypted, and our database only lets each person read their own records. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and let you know in the app.
